As the afternoon went on, people entertained themselves. With rounders…
The juniors tried to keep to the theme of the day with some cricket in the mud and the puddles in the (all weather ??!!) nets
Ali Clarke who organized the alternative entertainment finds time to strike out at rounders
Whilst John Alvis who provided the food for the day and the Micky Ball Memorial Shield looks on
Guess the flavour of 8 Yeo Valley Yoghurts was jointly won by three people (none from Yeo Valley, who had won the alternative games competition in the morning, largely due to some hefty welly throwing!)
Wrington CC juniors mentally prepare themselves for the Final, around the table-tennis table.
The pig-roast was brought forward, and followed delicious cakes and teas….
The table tennis table proved popular with all…note the two glasses on the table which did not seem to matter and probably contributed to the game starting….!
Whilst despite the rain, the Juniors took the phlegmatic British approach and still tried to play some cricket, with the inevitable umbrellas evident in the background.
The gazebos had been moved for the pig-roast (in the foreground) and for the unveiling of the bench. |
Marshall Clements Acting Chairman of the Cricket Club and Giles Clarke Chairman of Somerset County Cricket Club unveiled the Memorial Bench…….which was duly first occupied by the Ball family
The bench.
After the unveiling….
…the two ends of the Cricket foodchain.
The Wrington CC side huddle before the final shoot-out……
At this point I ran out of memory on the card!!..but Wrington CC convincingly beat Winscombe Rugby Club in the Final shoot-out and were declared first winners of the Micky Ball Memorial Shield. To be competed for annually. See everyone again next July. Surely the sun must shine in 2008.
Despite the rain the day was a huge success and demonstrated perfectly what a fantastic community spirit exists in the village. The weather could not have been worse….????!! Hopefully the event can only grow from this. |
