This photograph was one of a number taken at the party held at his home in Wrington to celebrate his 90th birthday, in the company of his family and friends - and an amazing number of his former students, amongst whom there were quite a few full professors. John spent much of the party placing chairs, and in other ways catering to the physical needs of those much younger than himself.
