Following the planting of a millennium oak on the school field on Wednesday,
20th December, 2000, the WI returned on Thursday, 21st June, 2001 for the installation of a commemorative plaque

This time two classes of children joined the WI party, but all were aghast to discover the lovingly planted tree hadn't survived - and not for want of water since last year |
Whilst the puzzled children looked on, the WI held a hastily convened committee meeting to decide what to do .... |
.... and deputy Head Jan Alcock improvised a class discussion speculating how the school field might look at the start of the next millennium - with or without the tree |
And so it was decided to continue with the installation, pending the acquisition and planting of a replacement tree .... |
... so, as before, present and immediate-past Presidents did the honours ... |
... which were rounded off with a mallet by Ian Yeoman, who'd made the plaque .... |
.... and a round of applause from the children |
