For 25 years, Blagdon artist Betty Silburn did screen printing and etching at the West of England Art College in Bristol. She was a member of both the Bath and Bristol Society of Artists and the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen, exhibiting her work regularly and selling extensively.

However, producing editions inevitably meant that some remained unsold. She is, therefore, holding an exhibition and sale of her unframed prints in St Andrew's Church, Blagdon on 23-25 May, from 10.30am-5.30pm. Prices will range from £10-£25 - well below their normal value - and all proceeds will go to Weston Hospicecare. Her subjects are mainly from the countryside, but also include some from Nepal, South Africa, Australia, and the Taj Mahal.

Betty, who will be ninety this month, really hopes you will support this venture, to make some money for such a worthy cause.

Origins of this group

There was an enthusiastic reponse to the formation of the Blagdon and Wrington Weston Hospicecare support group. The Committee - Sue Littlejones, Tina Smith, Angela Smythe (Blagdon) Betty Shaw - meet regularly to organise events, varied in size and type. Ideas or offers of venues and facilities would be greatly valued. Many of you have volunteered help (behind the scenes) -invaluable to our success for which we thank you most sincerely.
