... who finds brandy from the hands of Nellie to be more restorative than water ...

... and Baines proposes a string across the top of the staircase down which Lady W. is even now about to descend from fabric-matching, as having more potential than anything so far ... and a series of thuds ..

... suggests success at last - but, alas ... it was none

other than Herr W. himself whose rapid descent they'd heard ... and by now, Lord A's resolution is
