Little Grimley's am-dram society's committee (and entire personnel) are meeting to struggle with the problem of the next production in the face of over £400 owing to the landlord (as the Treasurer tells the Chairman) who's threatening to foreclose (as the Chairman tells everyone) ...
... their set-designer's not too struck by the idea of taking an on-stage role ...
... despite the Chairman's usual invitation to put up suggestions for the next production ...
... so long as it's not 7 Brides for 7 Brothers (their entire resources being limited to 4 of anything ...
... Gordon then makes Bernard an offer he can't refuse - a leading role in a play wot Gordon's wrote, that's full of SEX (or, at least, hints of sex) ...
... and so rehearsals begin ... once the pages of Gprdon's hand-written script have been evenly distributed ... Bernard having pointed out his shortage in the page 2 department ...
... and Joyce's kind rectification of same ... not to mention Bernard's over endowment when it comes to pages 4 ...
... the read-through begins - while Gordon's answering the 'phone - with Margaret following the script's direction to 'enter with a limp' ... a proposition Bernard fails to find convincing ..
... Gordon bears good news - the 'phone call was a request for more tickets than they've ever sold before - and the read-through starts over ...
... 'why are you coming on with a limp ?' asks Gordon ... 'because that's the direction in the script', says Margaret ...
... 'not a limp - it's a lamp' ...
