Le Jardin Plants - Butcombe

‘Le Jardin Plants’ is a small business run by Partners Richard and Joanna Allsop. Located in the village of Butcombe, in the picturesque Chew Valley, North Somerset, we offer the opportunity for you to visit and view the range of plants for sale. We concentrate on a specialist selection of plants – particularly Delphiniums and Hellebores, and are able to offer a range of individual and select, high quality plants.

                                  

Opening Times

During 2003 we expect to be open to the public Monday , Tuesday, Wednesday as follows :

10:00 – 13:00 &

14:00 – 17:00 from March to end October.

These opening times may be subject to minor change, therefore especially if travelling a long distance, it is recommended that you phone to confirm we are open. Visits outside these times may be arranged by appointment.

Please note that unfortunately the grounds are unsuitable for wheel chair access.

Prices

The 2004 catalogue will be published in November / December 2003. Our aim is to provide high quality plants at competitive prices and as such we hope to hold prices as shown in this 2003 catalogue, until the next issue.

Warning – many plants are poisonous. Therefore none of the plants listed should be considered safe for consumption and treated as ornamentals only.

Directions
F
rom Bristol on the A38, pass Bristol Airport and take the first turning on the left signposted to Butcombe. Follow along this lane and then take the first turning right. Stay on this road, going straight on at the minor crossroads, winding down until the road levels. Follow the road until it forks, then take the road up to the left, sign posted to the Church. Le Jardin Plants is the fourth property on the left.

From Bath on the A368 drive through Blagdon village and follow the road as it climbs down. Just past the Post Office which is on the right hand side, take the first turning right, sign posted Butcombe 2 miles. Follow this road , climbing down, go straight across the dam wall and continue for some time. Go past the turning to Aldwich and continue until the road forks. Follow the road around to the left, drive up and you will pass a post box on your right. Continue to where the road forks. Take the right hand fork, sign posted to the Church. Le Jardin Plants is the fourth property on the left.

Bears small green nodding flowers with narrow leaves. Prefers shade but can tolerate some sun. Height 12 ". 1 Lt £3.50

Helleborus foetidus
From wild seed collected in La Tania, French Alps. Produces cylindrical green flowers. Prefers partial shade in rich soil, but also tolerates dry shady positions. Easy to grow. Worth growing for its foliage alone Height 2 –2 ½ Ft. 1 Lt £4.00

Helleborus x sternii
A fine hybrid between H.argutifolius and H.Lividus. Pink / green flowers. Easy to grow. Height 14". 1 Lt £3.50

Look out for .... From Spring 2004 onwards a variety of hand pollinated hybridus hellebores will be available in a range of colours, including : light and deep pinks, spotted pinks, purple and dark shades.

2. For large orders, please phone first to check availability and enable us to prepare your order.

3. Orders are subject to availability allowing for plant shortage / propagation success.

4. Please list acceptable alternatives in the case of any item being unavailable.

5. In the case of mail order please advise any dates to be avoided for delivery purposes and any special instructions regarding delivery arrangements.

6. Mail order applies to UK mainland only.

7. We provide a free delivery service for orders of £50 or more within a radius of 10 miles. For orders of £50 or more within a radius of 11-15 miles, we offer a delivery service, charged at cost (see payment terms below.) We will contact the customer to agree a convenient delivery date, in line with availability of plants as dictated by the growing season. Large orders (over £100) outside the specified radius may be delivered – please enquire.

10. Payment may be made in the following ways :

Mail order – payment to be made by cheque upon receipt of invoice. (Please note that dispatch of your order will not occur until payment has cleared.) Cheques to be made payable to : J Allsop.

Local Delivery – cash on delivery will be required. For deliveries within an

11-15 mile radius this will include petrol charged at cost.

Direct Sales – for purchases on the premises, cash only.

General :

11. Every attempt is made to keep our stock true to name, to the best of our knowledge, but we are unable to give any warranty, express or implied, as to the flowering or productiveness as these are dependant upon cultural and other conditions beyond our control. We will not accept any claim for consequential loss arising from failure of any plants supplied.

12. Goods must be unpacked immediately upon receipt. Should any goods be received in an unsatisfactory condition you should contact us in writing within 2 days. Failure to do so will render any complaint void.

13. Every attempt will be made to fulfil customers delivery requests, however we do not accept liability for costs incurred relating to late arrival of goods.

14. Mail orders will be dispatched as soon as possible, in line with the appropriate season for the goods requested, subject to pre-payment terms.

15. Placing of an order constitutes acceptance of our Terms of Business.
