Wrington ARCHIVE John Hudson's 90th Birthday Celebrations |
One of Wrington's best loved long-term residents is Professor John Hudson, formerly Director of the Long Ashton Research Station. His 90th birthday on Sunday, 23rd July, 2000 was an occasion for much celebration by his family and friends |
The celebrations began the previous Friday evening when the All Saints' church choir, of which John is a member, joined him and sung happy birthday in his garden - in Portuguese and Welsh as well as English, to reflect aspects of John's life. |

John's son, Colin and partner, Mo, were over from Barbados, and had arranged by e-mail with the WI to bake and suitably decorate a couple of cakes ...... |
..... which John ceremoniously cut ...... |
...... after a few suitable words ! |
On Saturday, 22nd, John entertained a large
number of his former students - stretching back over 50 years - |
who had come to pay him homage, eat lunch and listen to what John promised would be his final lecture ! |
Then on Sunday, just when the family thought they could have a nice, quiet evening together, |
along came the Wrington Choral Society, complete with harmonium, to sing the Hallelujah Chorus re-arranged to the words of 'Happy Birthday' |
